A World War I letter dated Nantes November 3 1914 from Le Bras describes a wound on October 8 north of Foret de Aigle during a trench attack on Germans. He recalls earlier statements about the Kaiser and hopes for a decisive muster by British Belgian and French forces to push Germans back from the frontiers and the Rhine. The account notes heavy fighting and uncertain conditions near the front two months after leaving for the war.
The R M of Eldersley No. 427 held a meeting in Orange Hall on November 5 1914 with members in attendance and discussions recorded for minutes.
Council notes all members present except the Div 3 councillor. The minutes of the prior meeting are adopted. Byers and Alexander win the contract for municipal scales at 399. No outside municipal contributions for scales. A delegation from the Agricultural Society seeks grant in aid. poll planned at annual election. By‑law for a 250 grant to the Agricultural Society reads a first and second time.
Deputy returning officers in Canadian municipalities will bar voters of foreign nationality from casting ballots under an order in council. Non naturalized Germans Austrians and Turks listed as tenants may be refused voting despite appearing on municipal lists. The new duty requires swearing in all voters of foreign nationality.
The hunting party consisting of E. H. Purdy B. Larson F. McIntyre and EK W Schetl returned after a ten night camping period Saturday evening.
