Localities to be credited for veterans re enlistments adjust quotas

State authorities report veterans re enlisting are to be credited by localities as per state reports. Massachusetts Official Warns of Severe Winter Ahead

Secretary Mr Flint of the Massachusetts Board of Agriculture cites past New England droughts and harsh winters in 1664 1748 1749 1762 and later years 1854 1856 as evidence that next winter will be unusually severe. He notes summers of drought preceding hard winters and references a pattern of cyclical hardship. Soldiers express preference for tobacco over tracts while Provost Marshal General states deserters from the rebel army are not subject to enrollment or draft.

Peace Declared At Casap Gilmore Fort Emporium Tipton Iowa

After a drawn out campaign against the Fort Emporium on Fifth Street, a peace treaty ends hostilities with Casap and Gilmore. The accord pledges to sell cheap, durable clothing. coats from eight to ten dollars, pants and vests at set prices, and a return or exchange pledge. The notice proclaims Tipton Iowa as the headquarters and claims savings of at least 25 percent for shoppers.
