Deserting Union officer rises to rebel colonel in rain's division
Mr. L. G. Allen formerly with Captain Leffingwell's company at De Witt deserted the Federals around July 4 last year and has been promoted to a colonelcy among the rebels in Rains division. Ex Wilson wins Congress in this district by about 200, soldiers’ vote raises total majority to about 2,000. Judge Springer and District Attorney Tracy also re-elected in the First Judicial District by nearly the same margin, without soldiers' greatly large backing.
