The Gipton Advertiser reports a calm election in the township with majorities for the Republican slate including Governor Wm. M. Stone and other state and county offices. It notes a forthcoming Union Guards drill, tax reminders, lost window shade, local society meetings, institute sessions, fair premiums, and crop woes with frost damage.
A fragment discusses the superiority and worldwide adoption of Fairbanks scales, noting their role in standardizing weights nationally and internationally. It includes remarks from Hunts' Merchants' Magazine and mentions a letter about a German soldier’s Testament bullet incident near Little Rock, plus a note that Iowa faced no draft per Washington orders.
On October and 1863 at the residence of Wm Dilts the ceremony was performed by Rev. Wm Lee. Groeritl SreakMAnN and Martha McINtinge both of Casa township were wed.
On October 6 1863 Mrs Clarissa Lyle wife of John C Lyle died aged 42 at morning. Her piety and quiet devotion as a wife and mother earned universal respect among neighbors. She died peacefully in faith and is mourned by church and family. Also noted is the sudden death of Mrs Ann Cotterell on October 9 and Mr Jenny D Cox aged 53 on October 6. Mentions of local agricultural notices, entries of names and items appear in a fragmented ledger-like passage.
