Fragmentary OCR item notes a Thursday event dated January 12 1664 with unclear place names and names resembling Balvertiser LDawists. Details are illegible, but the reference indicates a local or short notice in a newspaper page segment.
A Memphis to Egypt raid of 000 strong destroyed the Mobile and Ohio line near Boonville to Egypt and thirty miles of the Mississippi Central line. Union forces captured 500 prisoners at Egypt and killed rebel Brig. Gen Gholson. They seized 300 wagons, two trains, 4000 carbines and vast stores. Deserters and prisoners were paroled, while other detachments burned locomotives and cars near Grenada and Bankston Factory. The campaign returned with 800 horses and mules and many contrabands, amid reports of strategic rail closures and heavy enemy losses.
