Iowa Law Amending Revenue and Tax Provisions 1862

The act changes county tax levies to include federal tax quotas and creates a separate city assessor in each town. Guerrilla Raid Strips Cottle’s Station of Wagons and Papers

A raid of 250 guerrillas at Cottle's station overwhelmed a small party, stampeding sutlers and wagons, burning seven vehicles, seizing horses, and capturing prisoners. Gen Pope's personal baggage and official papers were taken from a wagon. Twenty supply trains were destroyed or damaged. many wagons remained too wet to burn. Also notes the Stamp Tax schedule B takes effect October 1, 1862.

Scott County Fair at Davenport Opens with Prestigious Premiums

The Scott County Fair in Davenport runs September 22 to 26 with 3000 dollars in premiums open to all. It features trotting events, a grand grounds layout with ample shade, free water, dining saloons, stalls, dressing rooms, and convenient walks. Premiums include 200 for best trotting horse and 75 for best mare. free railway fare for entrants. and broader exhibits by the Mississippi and Missouri Railway.
