What is a Bond The First National Bonds After the War
The first national bonds issued after the war were the 520s of 1862. The government had previously issued treasury notes redeemable on demand and receivable as gold for duties. It next issued treasury notes and made them legal tenders for all purposes except for import duties. The 520 bonds dated 1862 1864 and 1865 remain in large numbers.
