Legislative Summary March Session on Railroad Land Grant

The Senate debated a substitute for Senate File 170 granting land to the McGregor and Sioux City Railway Company and enabling compliance with the 1864 land grant act. The House passed bills HF 100 on fruit tree planting and HF 178 on tax assessment, while rejecting most amendments to the Dubuque and Bronx City Railroad proposal. A key House amendment extended patent restrictions to Sioux City, later widened to twenty five miles. Italian Government tries to curb brigandage by force

The Italian Government is endeavoring to suppress brigandage by military measures. Two Fenian prisoners have been sentenced to life imprisonment at Manchester England. The British Government refused to mitigate the sentence of Rev Mr Mc Mahon and other convicted Fenian raiders in Canada. The Union Pacific Railroad is now 27 miles west of Cheyenne near the highest summit, at 8,300 feet above sea level, with about 3,000 men employed in grading. By April the first hills will pass and the Laramie Plains lie ahead. By end of August next 315 miles of the California end should be in working order. Michigan State election on April 6 will decide the new Constitution provisions and prohibition. The city election in the same state also occurs that day.

Hon H Price Declines Another Congressional Bid

Washington City March 2 1968 editors of Gazette Mr H Price states he will not again seek Congress after eighteen months of reiterating he would not be a candidate He thanks supporters for their liberal backing and says he would fulfill his duties through the end of his term with participation in the public service.
