Village board sets June 14 at 7 30 p.m. for public hearing on K and B Homes 220 acre annexation into Tinley Park. Plan shows 500 single family lots, 60 acres multi family, 19 acres commercial with three new car dealerships.
Tinley Park Human Resources commission denounces a proposed diagnostic center in Tinley Park citing lack of information and state cooperation. The plan would place about 250 adult male inmates at 183rd street and 80th avenue next to the mental health center, with Joliet shortages and ground rules still unsettled.
Orland Park trustees debated alleged conflicts of interest involving six officials who together oversaw more than 200000 in village business over six years. Trustees defended George Brown as essential and noted many projects were done without pay. Members urged witnesses to prove claims.
The 17 year cicadas return in swarms to the southwest suburbs dormantly underground for 17 years. Experts from Cook County Conservation and University of Illinois warn they are harmless to people but can injure young trees by females laying 400 to 600 eggs in twigs. Estimates of emergence range from 10 000 to 40 000 per large tree, with higher counts near wooded Tinley Park Orland Park and Oak Forest. Conservation officials say no chemical control will be pursued. protection includes cheesecloth on plants and careful tree care.
