Penny drive yields patriotism certificates in 1974

The U S Mint urged citizens to return pennies and exchange them for paper money. Banks forward donor names to the Treasury for a special citation signed by Mary Brooks and William E Simon. Local banks Bremen and Orland Park report several participants.

Kaup Withdraws Plan for Single Family Homes in Tinley Park

Kaup halted his condominium petition and proposed eight acre parcel at 169th Street and Ridgeland Avenue for 25 single family homes with minimum 7500 square foot lots and prices between 50000 and 60000. Trustees took no action while long range plan commission schedules July 2 hearing.

Tinley Park Boy Wounded In Accidental Shootings

A 13 year old Tinley Park youth, Michael Collier, remained in surgery after a World War II handgun discharged while he and a friend inspected it at 6636 West 171st Street. He is listed in critical condition at South Suburban hospital. Michael, son of Mr and Mrs Donald Collier, will enter eighth grade at Central Junior High next September.

Tinley Park to Establish Village Blood Replacement Program

The Tinley Park board authorized an ordinance to form an eight member blood commission and adopt a blood replacement plan. Village Attorney Edwin Richardson was directed to draft the ordinance for review before adoption. The plan aims to provide annual blood replacement for participating families and unify current independent groups into a village wide program.

Hart Quits Westhaven Trustee Post After Appointment Vote

Daniel Hart resigned from the Westhaven board after a 3 1 vote appointed Arthur Mansch to one of two vacancies. Hart objected to Mansch, left the room, and announced an oral resignation. The board, short of a quorum, adjourned after a private 30 minute session. Mansch, 30, an Shell Oil employee in Chicago, was recommended by Acting Mayor Sudar. He will serve until the next election. Hart, elected in 1973, had chaired the finance committee.

Kirby Grads Are Honored At Graduation

Kirby school's 1974 graduation at Carl Sandburg High School Orland Park marked the largest ceremony with 187 diplomas. Valedictorian Kenneth O'Brien and salutatorian Kathleen Kluck spoke. Rev. Carl Beuchstein gave the invocation.
