Severe floods swept multiple Tinley Park areas last week as nearly two inches of rain and thawing snow breached ground, with the scene centered outside Tinley Park High School.
Heavy rains and melting snow caused widespread flooding in Tinley Park Oak Forest Westhaven and Orland Park on Saturday. Oak Forest endured the worst damage with multiple intersections flooded and water affecting homes near Twin Lakes. Tinley Park saw flooding along 177th Street 66th Avenue and Lewis Park near 167th Street. The Old Section of Westhaven was submerged in water.
Brenne, the Republican incumbent in Illinois Ninth district, will contest the November election results after a discovery recount showed irregularities. He argues absentee ballots were missing and a full countywide recount could overturn Democrat Leland Rayson’s 1,400 vote margin. Rayson acknowledges Brenne’s right to contest though calls the margin substantial.
Voters in District 228 convene this Saturday to fill a vacancy created by John Yuska’s resignation. Polls open noon to 7 pm at Bremen Hillcrest Oak Forest and Tinley Park high schools with four precincts defined by attendance areas. Voters must reside in the respective polling area and sign an affidavit at the line.

A motorist was clocked at 112.5 mph in a 70 mph zone by state police using stopwatches. Lawrence C. Larsoun, 31, of Mokena, claimed accelerator stuck and he coasted in a Datsun 240-2. Court date set for January 24 in Midlothian.
