Tinley Park Mayor John Dunn announced he will seek a third term after delaying the decision to gauge others. He said he enjoys the role and plans to stay, while Durkin is stepping down amid local chatter about alternate posts.
Suburban officials from 72 towns meeting in Oak Lawn to discuss a Chicago water price hike. Niles Mayor Nicholas Blase urges suburban backing for protests against higher rates amid a 1975 study accusing Chicago of overcharging suburbs by up to 14 cents per 1000 gallons.
District 140 business manager Clair Chernack outlined an oversimplified view of how the Cook County Tully tax plan could cut district revenue. She modeled a $38,000 new home at 22, 17, and 16 percent assessments, producing equalized values and district income estimates of $372.29, $287.70, and $270.75 respectively, noting multiplier changes could alter the results.
Oak Lawn Democrat Yourell, in his sixth term and 10th in Democratic seniority, says he has felt out for a leadership job in the upcoming 80th General Assembly. He notes support from peers and may target assistant majority leader if Speaker Redmond and Majority Leader Madison shifts occur. A GOP district, Yourell led in the recent election with strong cross-division backing and 80,000 votes.
The Tinley Park Jaycees host a Christmas tree lighting at 7 pm tonight at the Rock Island commuter station on 173rd Street and Oak Park Avenue. Choral groups from Tinley Park High, Central Junior High, and the Mr. and Mrs Jaycees will perform before Santa Claus arrives. Residents are urged to bring ornaments for the 30-foot tree donated by Michael Varon, Nick Makris, and Andy Matalas. ornaments must arrive by 7:15 pm to be placed on the tree.
