A two year old Nebraska study says suburban water customers were overcharged 14.5 cents per 1000 gallons by Chicago for hydrant and sewer costs while city residents paid pensions and purchasing charges. Oak Lawn will host a meeting to discuss possible lawsuits and rate hikes to begin January 1.
A fire in unincorporated Tinley Park gutted John Czekala’s two story white wooden home at 17953 Highland Avenue. Neighbor Casey Jalowiek reported smoke around 9:30 p.m. Firefighters from Tinley Park and Oak Forest fought the blaze for about two and a half hours, using a pool of water due to no local hydrants. No injuries were reported.
Tinley Park and Orland township officials reached a temporary agreement on youth counseling for Tinley Park residents in Orland township. A special meeting led by William Gainor set the framework for intense counseling cases through Bremen township youth and funding of a counselor. A review committee will monitor CRY and Family Services over the next year to judge adequacy and possible expansion.
Robert Charlton, son of Charles Charlton Sr., offers a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for his father’s death. Police labeled the July 1974 hit and run a closed case, but Charlton disputes that and has posted Wanted posters in Oak Forest seeking new leads.
Cook County Health officials say 18 to 24 year olds who got swine flu shots in the last four weeks must receive a second booster to reach adequate antibody levels. Two free clinics in south and southwest suburbs will administer the dose on December 20 and 22 between 4 and 8 pm at Oak Lawn and Harvey offices. People 25 and older are not required to get the second shot.
