The Gold Rush is hailed as Chaplin’s greatest comedy mixing tears and laughter. A starving wanderer in a Klondike stampede creates a string of comic reversals from a self inflicted faint to a prospector revived by coffee and meal. Chaplin threads a tenderfoot tale with romance and pursuit as Big Jim McKay drives gold fever while the lone prospector endures a blizzard and a note of apology that sends him skyward in love.
