About six thousand people attended the Thomson Melon Day festival with events from Saturday to Monday. Patsy Montana and Arkansas Woodchopper plus banjo expert Larry Tobler drew crowds Monday evening as a softball tournament crowned Rock Falls champion. Tennessee watermelons fed attendees with an estimated fifteen tons served. Lions Club praised the three day turnout despite heat and competing towns. Patsy Montana bought melons from Fay Ashby’s stand for a California trip.

Henry Young Sr dies at 62 in Thomson
Henry Young Sr 62 of Thomson died Saturday morning after a month long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Hunter Fuller Memorial Chapel Savanna with Rev. Lowell Allen officiating. Burial was at Lower York cemetery. He was born January 17 1898 in Rice township Daviess county and is survived by a large family including four sons, one daughter, and many stepchildren and grandchildren.
