Village of Thomson Marks Seventieth Year With 1864 Survey
An aged document in Thomson's village hall marks the town’s seventieth birthday. The 1864 plat by G A Thomson lays out Main street and surrounding lots, notes street widths, and describes the early growth from Bluffville to Thomson with landmarks such as the Western Union railroad, Nor man D. French and Noah Green land splits, and the first school and churches. The piece recounts incorporation ballots in 1873, the first village officers, and the evolving streetscape as the community expanded around Main Street and Walnut, North, and Market avenues.
