Married farm couple build a life on thrift and faith
Horton B. Green recounts Mabel and Ray, a couple from a Illinois community who married in 1918 after pooling savings and poultry profits. They bought a 60 acre farm near Joliet, started family devotions, expanded through four incubator hatches, and grew to own 150 hens, 350 pullets, 75 cockerels with income from eggs and poultry. They tithed generously, bought more land with a down payment and yearly payments, and raised two children while remaining active in church and community.
