Mt Carroll residents recall a Thursday near-miss as deputy county clerk Gerald Buchenau pulled a three year old, Gustaf Bro, from the courthouse fountain pool after the child slipped into the water. The boy escaped unharmed a neighbor and the boy’s mother rush to the scene.
Two 1964 ISU graduates have accepted teaching posts for the coming year. Carol Stebbins will teach History at Savanna Community High School, Savanna. Mary Lou Ottenhausen will teach business education at Lanark Community High School, Lanark.
Rock Creek Grange held its regular meeting on Saturday with four Legislative Committee resolutions read and approved. Officers were elected: Master Arthur Manning, Overseer Francis Provant, Lecturer Helen Libberton, Steward Peter Libberton, Asst. Steward Clarence Van DeVelde, Chaplain Esther Haught, Treasurer Wallace Ware, Secretary Evelyn Robert, Gatekeeper Frank Welker, Ceres Helen M. Manning, Pomona Cora Dale, Flora Linnie Bornemeier, Lady Asst. Steward Minerva Provant, Executive Com. Earl Carbaugh, Juvenile Matron Evelyn Rahn. Delegates to the Illinois State Grange Convention: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Manning. alternates Mr. and Mrs. Francis Provant. Booster Night Sept 21. Installations Sept 12. subordinate officers Sept 19. Carroll County Pomona Sept 14 at Rock Creek Grange hall. Dessert lunches planned for each event.
Two suits for damages were filed in Carroll County Circuit Court by Miss Jo Ella Spanogle of Mt. Carroll and by Frances Frankenberger alleging negligence after their car hit a Milwaukee Road train on Illinois Route 80 south of Savanna in fog on Aug 26 1962. Spanogle claims head face neck and body injuries. The Frankenberger suit notes the couple were newly married.
