About sixty five Thomson junior high students attended a social evening of dancing Friday in the school cafeteria. The eighth grade hosts decorated the room with Halloween motifs and numerous lanterns, while the host class provided snacks and refreshments.
Mrs. Eugene Murray of Thomson won first place in the mixed scenery division for a pastel titled Lower York at the eighth annual Savannah art show. The event drew over 350 attendees and nearly 400 entries, with Murray the sole Thomson participant. Her blue ribbon follows prior exhibitions and supports local scenic themes.

Mattie, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Mattie of Thomson, earned the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters for 25 aerial missions over hostile territory from Oct 1967 to May 1968 and logged 1200 flight hours on his last Vietnam tour. He enlisted in 1947, finished his second Vietnam tour May 24, 1988, and is stationed at Fort Richardson with his wife Leona Curley and four children.
