Old Tug Barlow Heads Toward Museum in New York
The Corps of Engineers donated the tug Barlow to the New York Technology Society for use as a floating museum. Built in 1931 in Duluth, the vessel served on Lake Superior until 1963 and is powered by an early marine diesel engine designed in 1916. The 655 foot long towboat will travel from Fountain City Wisconsin through Illinois and the Hudson to New York, retaining Corps colors and staying operable. A next year voyage to the America’s Cup races near Newport is planned.
