Retired Linotype Operator M. J. Strukhoff Dies at 71
Maurice J. Strukhoff, 71, longtime linotype operator for Review Publications since 1929, died around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in a Clinton hospital after stomach surgery. Funeral services set for Friday at Fay-Seesser funeral Home in Fulton with burial in Lower York Cemetery east of Thomson. He was born December 12, 1895 in Farley Iowa. He married Mabel Rogers in 1933 in Maquoketa Iowa. He was a member of the Episcopalian faith and Julien Lodge No. 551 AF AM of Farley. Surviving are his wife, a son Paul of Mt. Carroll, two grandchildren, and a sister Metta Lien of Naperville. His parents and four sisters preceded him in death.

Moving a Brick Home on Wheels to New Mississippi River Subdivision
Albert and Mrs. Lynch of Thomson moved their four room brick house from an 80 acre farm to a new site in the Leland Gibson Subdivision near the Mississippi River. The move was done by J Wallace Construction Co. Challenges included sandy soil requiring plank roadways and the removal of a large elm. A pair of raccoons abandoned their hollow when the house passed.

Band Boosters Pick New Uniform Style at Board Meeting
The Band Boosters and school board finalized the new band uniforms after Robert Hunt showed several styles. The chosen design mirrors Purdue University’s marching band look and will be displayed at the school and during the first concert in December. Audience may view at the school office. The annual variety show dates March 29 and 30 with Mrs. John Davidson directing, assisted by Mrs. Harold Wilt. President Mrs. Irvin Senneff presided over the meeting.

Tractor And Picker Burn Near Thomson Farm
Firefighters answered a morning alarm at a Thomson area farm to find a 560 International diesel tractor and two row mounted corn picker engulfed in flames at the field edge. High winds spread the fire into a hay field, but crews controlled it. The damaged equipment was insured.
