Six Escape With Minor Injuries In Three Car Route 78 Crash

Three cars collided on Route 78 near Frances Shimer College Mt Carroll at 11 45 p m Sunday. Lester Rummel 25 Scales Mound admitted he dozed at the wheel and caused the wreck. F B Howe 37 Savanna and F J Stiles 33 Savanna sustained minor injuries. Howe’s wife Miss Kupfer of Savanna and Eric Swan of St Paul Minn were treated for bruises and shock.

Infantile Paralysis Fund Drives in Carroll County

A report by Mrs. G. H. Collingwood shows 102.93 raised with 102.98 total receipts for fighting infantile paralysis in Carroll County. Officers include Vice chair Mrs. Charles Conley and Secretary Mrs. Gee Schmidel, all from Savanna, with local chairs in Chadwick, Thomson, Mt. Carroll, Shannon. A chest clinic is set for Wednesday November 12 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Mt. Carroll courthouse office of county nurse Nell Stewart.

Farm Security Office Established in Mt Carroll Area

A permanent Farm Security Administration office serves Carroll and Whiteside counties, located in Mt Carroll basement of the post office. Clifford L. Shaner, rural rehabilitation supervisor, leads the program from Mt Carroll Tuesday daily 9 to 4 and Morrison Whiteside courthouse Wednesdays 9 to 11. Miss Pearl Ward directs home management for Carroll Whiteside De Kalb and Ogle counties.

Final Trail Ride Of Year Attracts Sixty Riders

About 60 riders took part in the Mt. Carroll Horsemen's Association final trail ride of the season in northwestern Illinois and eastern Iowa. The 10 mile trip started from the Kipnis sale barn in Mt Carroll, ended with a chicken dinner at Polsgrove community house, and returned by four. Youngsters joined the ride while David Saidel was the youngest rider and James Colehour with Isadore Saidel rebuilt markers after late rains washed them out.

Man Confesses to Slaying Fulton FiveYearOld

Leo Jordan, 23, of Fulton, admits killing five year old Warren Paul Snyder after slashing the boy’s throat with a razor. He confessed Tuesday after being arrested Monday night and held without bond following an inquest in Fulton. Authorities fear mob violence as the case heads to the grand jury. The child was found by a Fulton Scout during a search effort. Jordan, recently acquitted of statuary rape, has 15 years of prior confinement in Iowa facilities.

Poultry Products Show Planned by Carroll County Officials

Carroll county Farm Bureau officials plan a poultry products show on November 14 at Mt. Carroll. If carried out it would be the first of its kind in the state, featuring fancy packs and weights of broilers fryers roasters ducks and turkey grades. It aims to interest both producers and consumers of poultry.

Sectional Ag Show Slated in Milledgeville Saturday

Northwestern Illinois agriculture students will travel to Milledgeville on Saturday November 15 for the sectional grain and poultry show at the high school. $300 in premiums from the state will be awarded for supervised farm practice projects with judging starting at 9 a.m. and results released mid afternoon. Ralph Schelling Milledgeville teacher will oversee the event, the first time in years it has been held there. Mr and Mrs Will Sack of Waterloo Iowa were Sunday overnight visitors to Harve Schreiner’s home.

No Auto Deaths in October Across Six Counties

Carroll Lee and Jo Daviess counties report no automobile fatalities for October. Four people died in accidents in Whiteside Ogle and Stephenson counties last month. Toll for the six county district this year reaches 47 deaths with Whiteside 13 Ogle and Stephenson 7 Lee 15 Jo Daviess 3 and Carroll 2.

Holman Takes New Trainer Post in Monroe Wisconsin

Darrell Holman, noted Mt. Carroll harness trainer, accepts head trainer role for Arlie Frost and J. Ray Trusler in Monroe. He will train 12 horses for Frost and Trusler, plus his two year-old pacer, a yearling trotting filly owned by Fred Sundberg, and a pacing mare from Hartbrothers. Holman moved to Monroe Friday to begin duties as the Monroe fair association builds a 20 stall double training barn.

Lanark Cattle Sell For 12.60 Per Cwt At Chicago Yards

Greenawalt Brothers feedlots near Lanark in Carroll county sent 20 prime Hereford yearlings averaging 1016 pounds each. They sold at 12.60 dollars per cwt for eastern shipment, one of the high offers at the Tuesday market at the Chicago Stock Yards.

Savanna Laborer Suffocated In Corn Bin Tragedy

John Quinn a 38 year old Savanna worker died Saturday afternoon when he became trapped under 20 000 bushels of shelled corn in a grain storage tank at the Rosenbaum elevator. Crew saw him after the obstruction gave way and he could not be recovered. He left a widow and relatives.

Mount Carroll Edges Warren Eleven in Muddy Gridiron

Mount Carroll high school defeated Warren 18 to 7 in a Grant conference game played amid persistent rain and a muddy Mount Carroll field. Roske scored early on a 1 yard run. Emery added a 15 yard TD and a failed extra point. Warren answered with a 12 yard TD pass and extra point. Emery connected a 10 yard pass to Warfield for another Mount Carroll score. Dr W J Kallis and Dr Irvin Kanarek open a new optical office in Savanna in the rear of the former Commercial State bank building at Main and Madison streets.
