Uriah Asa Pratt Civil War veteran and Thomson Hotel proprietor died at his home on Saturday October 30 1926 after a long illness. He read constantly kept his premises neat and garden tended. Pratt shared stories of early days and was a friend to many in the Thomson papers office, reflecting thinning ranks of veterans of 1861.
Diriah Asa Pratt born December 24 1846 in New York died October 30 1086 at Thomson Illinois aged 19 years 10 months and some days after a life with his wife Mary Ellen Carpenter who died September 1 1921 He moved west with his parents to Argo later dwelling at the Pratt house He survived by four nieces and two nephews Funeral services were held at the family home with Rev RB Schsich of the Christian Church officiating Interment followed in the Argo family lot
The grade school festival drew strong community support and a net proceeds of 83 dollars. Pupils will present a short patriotic program on Armistice Day November 11. English class forms a literary society planning monthly programs, with a Wednesday afternoon event schedule.

The York Co-Op Theatre promotes bargain night on Tuesday November 5 at 8 p m with Mary Pickford in Little Annie Rooney and a Fox Variety Reel presented as a premium program. Buck Jones stars in The Fighting Buckaroo on Saturday night November 6 with tickets priced at 16 and 25 cents.
Miss Eloise Saffer, Bristol school teacher, reports that 22 October school days had scholars neither absent nor tardy. Named pupils include girls Marie Stage and Gertrude Dykestra, boys Robert Stage and Rebert Dykerta.
Plans and surveys by the York-Savanna Drainage District aim to recondition the Old Sunfish Lake area for farming. Engineer Stransky proposes ditch realignment, new pumps, and tile drainage linking farms, with pumps reduced from 46 to 12 inches and a major northward drainage alignment.
QO E Howard announces an Old Fiddlers Contest at Chadwick Community Hall on Wednesday evening November 11. Eighty dollars in cash prizes will be awarded with all fiddlers invited to join and compete for prizes. An engaging program is planned and Oscar hopes York fiddlers may attend. Mr and Mrs Fred Yates are now residing in Mrs Lucinda Groharing’s Poona.
The Village Council in regular session with President 2 D Bennett approved and paid listed bills including drayage, labor, hydrant repairs, salaries, and utilities. They moved to discontinue street parking of cars during school hours before the High School, suggesting parking in the closed Street by the sub station. Treasurer’s report showed a $1676.07 balance. Adjournment followed.
Charles Jenkins reports changes to Burlington passenger trains effective this past Monday. The southbound morning train at 4 05 p m now departs 3 57 p m. The southbound evening train No 47 shifts from 10 07 p m to 11 22 p m.
A correction lists Mrs J M Chesnutt to sing at the Community High School PTA meeting this Thursday while John Hay will address in place of Dr Mary Sagner. It also records horses substituting for a Saturday sale, Robt Troy handling stock, and weekly sales across several towns. The M E Ladies dinner at the church basement on election day drew a large crowd with a 35 cent dinner.
