New Boating Rules Enforced for Sailboats and Motors
The Illinois General Assembly authorized a new Boat Registration and Safety Act. State Conservation officials may board vessels to check compliance. Sailboats over 12 feet must display an identification number and carry one life preserver per person. Registration fees rose to four dollars. certificates now expire after two years. Ventilation rules apply to motorboats with low fuel flashpoints. Accident reporting timelines tighten. fatal incidents must be reported within 48 hours.
