Timber as Profit on Illinois Farms Warns Against Burning
L E Sawyer of the University of Illinois Extension Forester argues that well managed timber can profit farmers more by keeping stock and fire out, avoiding wasteful practices like burning. Proper timber handling includes selective cutting, marketing, and integrating sawmills or nearby mills for processing. Some tracts pay taxes and yield net gains per acre, with land types differing in suitability for conversion to farm land.
