CCC Camp Closures Planned After March 31
A Washington press dispatch says Mt. Carroll and Stockton CCC camps will be discontinued permanently after March 31 if Roosevelt's budget request is not increased by Congress. Northwes tern Illinois will then have only one CCC site, with Durand already closed. Nationwide, 273 camps would end, 160 others face seasonal or noneconomy closures.

Charles Kingery of Salem township was elected president of the Mt Carroll Rural Fire Prevention corporation at its organization meeting in Mt Carroll. A purchasing committee includes Kingery Zillhart and Kessler. The group has 2900 in fees and donations toward a rural fire truck. Nine directors named from Salem Freedom Woodland York. Two Iowa Men Plead Guilty in Grand Larceny Case
Fred McDavid and Lewis Clark, Black residents of Iowa, pleaded guilty Wednesday to grand larceny after being indicted for attempting to steal turkeys from a Thomson area farm. Judge Leon A. Zick sentenced them to one to ten years in the state penitentiary.

Rev George Gable Hurt in Auto Crash Near Stockton
The Rev. George Gable pastor of the Apple River Methodist church was seriously hurt Friday afternoon when his car collided with a produce truck a mile east of Stockton on U S highway 20. He was taken to Deaconess hospital in Freeport with fractures in both legs a crushed chest and head lacerations. The retired minister had been serving as supply pastor at Apple River after a long career in northern Illinois churches including Albany.

Stolen Auto Recovered In Rochelle Theft Probe
An auto taken from John Mathias of Sterling Thursday night was found in Rochelle Friday by Rochelle police. Sterling officers notified Mathias and found a second car stolen from Rochelle. Investigators say Rochelle youths stole the Rochelle car, drove it to Sterling, abandoned it, and then stole Mathias car to return to Rochelle. Mathias exchanged the Rochelle car for his own. no damage or items removed from his vehicle.

Care of 38 at Carroll County Farm aids budget
Kyle Turney reported to the county board that 38 persons were cared for at the Carroll County Farm in the year ending March 1 1940 at a total cost of 6835 52. On March 1 there were 25 inmates with a weekly cost of 537. Produce from the farm reduces cash outlays and is valued at market price in operating costs. Thirty six inmates were served during the year with 12 admitted eight discharged and five deaths.

Mrs. Jennie Campbell 64 died at 3 a m Saturday at her Mt Carroll home from a heart attack. Funeral services were held Monday with prayer services at 2 p m at Frank Brothers Mt Carroll and 2 30 p m at the Methodist church. Rev James A Foard officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery. She was the daughter of Robert and Margaret Gillespie born in Washington township north of Savanna. Her husband John A Campbell died over 20 years ago. Surviving are two daughters Mrs Kenneth Schneider near Mt Carroll and Mrs Margaret Carr of Mt Carroll, one son Dr Claire Campbell of Munice Ind, several grandchildren, a sister Mrs Charles Bickelhaupt of Mt Carroll and a brother Isaac Gillespie of Savanna.
