County clears dog attack livestock claims with $1469 payment

County treasurer paid 1469.35 to residents for livestock killed by dogs across Mt Carrell Wisox Freedom Cherry Rock Creek. Sheep losses 134 head cow hogs and turkeys accounted for most claims. This is the first time all such claims are paid in full from dog license funds, with rest funded from available reserves.

Bowen dies in Savanna at 76 after hip injury

F P Bowen, 76, longtime Northwestern Illinois lines vice president, died Friday at Savanna hospital after several weeks with a fractured hip from a Feb 4 fall. He oversaw electric and transmission systems since 1900s, became general manager in 1926, and served as VP until death. Survived by widow, a niece and nephew. Employees of the Burlington and Milwaukee railroads received a double paycheck Saturday due to the pension fund deduction taking effect March 1. Resume Work In County On WPA Projects

Weather improves and WPA programs resume in the Rockford district. In Carroll county 309 workers were on 15 projects in the week ending Feb 23, earning a two week wage total of 4964. Several highway and grade crossing and river projects will start soon, providing work for the unemployed. many certified for relief are idle due to refusals, unfitness, or lack of reporting. One Auto Death Report In Early 1935 District

Deaths from car accidents in January and February within the 3rd congressional district totaled one, per six county coroners: Carroll, Jo​nes, Whiteside, Ogle, Stephenson and Lee. The single fatality occurred in Whiteside County in January. February had none. Low traffic is blamed for the lull, though any travelers faced hazardous road conditions on drifted high­ways. Minor crashes were frequent on city streets and drifted lanes. Warren County reported the best annual record for 1935.
