Indictments Return Larceny Charges in June Session
Two indictments were returned by the June grand jury charging Osbourne Landmark and James Spellman with larceny. Both pleaded guilty before Judge Le on A. Zick and were sentenced to one day in jail and $1 fines after having served over 60 days. Landmark allegedly stole a $14 radio from L. L. Holetz of Savanna on April 12, and Spellman allegedly stole $1 from W. F. Massey of Savanna on April 26. The jail release left the county jail empty. The term also lists cases set for hearings on June 28 and July 10 including Smith v City of Savanna and related actions.

Mrs. Ralph Putnam aged 50 of Bellevue and Savanna lineage died June 13 in Pierre from burns after her husband drenched her clothes with gasoline and ignited them. He fled home, killed one of four policemen attempting arrest, then killed himself. Survived by daughter, three sons in service, father, and a brother. funeral held in Bellevue with burial there.

Staff Sgt. James P. Madsen, 20, son of James P. Madsen Sr. of Savanna, was killed in Germany during World War II after being reported missing in action on December 25. He was a gunner in the Army Air Corps, enlisted in 1942, had six months overseas, and is survived by his widow and son of Elmwood Park, his mother, a brother, both of Oak Park, and other relatives. Weekend and Sunday visitors were noted at the Stage households.

IFWC Offers Scholarship in Therapy for Women Applicants
The Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs announces a three year occupational therapy program leading to a bachelor of science degree. Elmer Biffington of Milledgeville represented a 22 head shipment weighing 1059 pounds at Chicago stock yards on Wednesday June 14, with steers selling straight at 17 dollars per hundredweight. Ralph Gillogly died at his Savanna home following a paralytic stroke. A World War I veteran he ran the Savanna taxi business from 1910 until 1942.
