Joe Foltz runs a small shop in Argosha selling ice cream, pop, and soft drinks. He offers ice cream at 50 a quart in packs and 40c hand packed, with plans to add beer soon. James Mummert announces a dairy cow sale Saturday with about 50 head available for buyers.
The gate of the Margaret Hinds estate personal property was held from the late home Wednesday with very good attendance and satisfactory prices. A canoe club in Freeport has several canoes for sale and townspeople talk of sharing one to take a soak in the slough. Barber Tobey Holland backs the canoe idea as a weekly bath, while Bill Strubvle of Stillwater and others show keen interest in canoeing this summer if water remains high.
Olivia Griswold hosted a miscellaneous shower and dance for newlyweds Mr and Mrs Wayland Bennett. Guests arrived unseen, offered advice notes, and watched the bride open gifts on a screened porch. Prizes went to Donald Wilt and Maxine Martindale. a rolling pin was a guest prize.
Sixteen firms sponsor weekly free moving picture shows on Main Street during summer supervised by Petey Wales. This Saturday June 24 features Oil and Romance a fine comedy with a larger expected crowd than last week. Last week Gold drew laughter and praise. shows start after dark so late farmers can attend. Elmer Pease of Jersey City visited friends here during a vacation. He is employed at Justakive Seed Co. and holds a fine position. He also traveled to Milwaukee Chicago and moved on with the visit.
Friends announce the marriage of Beulah Ashbaugh to David John Davis on Saturday June 17 in Oxford Ohio. Beulah is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Ernest Ashbaugh, a former school superintendent now teaching at the University of Oxford. The couple's families are well known in the community.
George Mork received word Monday that his brother James Mort of Puneytown Maryland had died.
The omitted marriage of Russi Gleason to Norma Madison was held June 7 at the bride's home in Savanna with guests from Savanna. Gleason will work at the Milwaukee artificial ice plant after July first and the couple will live with the bride’s parents for now. Officials unveiled plans for the annual Lena camp meeting, July 7 to July 15, joining the Mason Jubilee Singers for a ninth year. The grounds lie one mile north of Route 73 in Lena village, with meals priced at 20 cents breakfast, 35 cents dinner, 25 cents supper, and meal tickets at 4 and 6 dollars. The program features Men’s Day, Women’s Day, Epworth leagues institutes, and a William of Carroll County Methodist ministers lineup including Rev Duvall and Rev Brucé, plus Miss Helen Hewitt on Foreign Missionary address. The event opens with the North Boone Ministerial Association drama The Servant in the House on Friday at 7:30 am.
A son named George Edward was born to Mr and Mrs Herbert St Ores on Sunday June 18. The baby weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces at birth.
About 150 members of the Green family gathered for the 22th annual reunion at Waterworks Park. Attendees came from Clinton Low Moor Moline Thomson Chadwick Fulton Savanna Rockford Rock Falls Stirling AL and Delavan Wis. Kyle Melendy of Savanna was reelected president and Minnie McCullough secretary. The next reunion will be in Morris at the same park on the Sunday in June 1934.
Irve Lewis is named postmaster at Walnut, succeeding Harold Kerchner. Jeff Liver named assistant postmaster. Lewis, WWI veteran and Walnut Leader figure, begins duties Monday, with strong local support and long service in Democratic circles.
The Royal Neighbors met Tuesday with attendees noted. Refreshments included fresh pineapple sundae, waters, and seed tea. Eastern Star members gather tonight with Mrs Fred Nope as hostess for an afternoon gathering of her 500 club.
Mr and Mrs T McNamara and Ethel attended the funeral of Mrs Wik Dowd at Dixon on Saturday. Mr and Mrs J J Sheridan and Irene also attended. Mrs Dowd was a cousin of the McNamara family and the Sheridans.
Mrs. Elizabeth Bronkema, long-time Fulton resident, died Tuesday morning June 20 in a Cutterville Michigan sanitarium after a 3.5 year illness. Born in Pevershburge, Hel land in 1845, she married twice, had a son Garrett who died, and two daughters Charis and Sebe Dykstra. Survived by many relatives and grandchildren. funeral at Fulton Christian church with Rev J Breloff officiating. Burial followed.
