From 1922 through 1980 the average annual production exceeded 46 million pounds, valued around $1.4 million, and 1927 marked a record harvest of 118 million pounds. Production relies on soils, climate, and limestone fertilization, and future gains require fertile soil and fertilizer use despite not ideal conditions.
