The Village Board met in special session July 11 to amend the retailers occupation tax ordinance. A resolution sets the tax at not to exceed three fourths of one percent, effective August 1 1967, voted by McKee and Ashby with adjournment by McKee and Cox.

Black Oak Grange met July 6 with Jo Anne Halfman reporting on Camp Wartburg activities in Waterloo Iowa. President Johnson to speak at fall Centennial Convention. Grange to run a game stand at the August 5 Community Fair. Rock Creek Grange chartered a bus to Amana July 26. Program on Our Flag and safety rules followed. WSCS plans all day church event July 19 with church cleanup and potluck. Plans for Community Fair booth to be finalized.

Thomson Buffeted By 15 Minute Rain and Wind

A brief nor easter struck Thomson causing downed trees, broken branches, and power outages. Residents report damage across town including houses, yards, and utilities while Savanna Fulton and Argona saw lighter effects. Reed reports mention a nursing home road blockage, a chicken coop damaged, and a few miles of electric service disrupted before improvements returned.

Series of Break-ins Plague Two Towns

Sheriff Harry Miller and police probed four break-ins Tuesday night in Chadwick and Thomson. Senneff Lumber and Engelke Feed Store in Chadwick. Atherton Service Station and Diehl Oil Co in Thomson were entered. Loot included about $106 from Atherton, $6.50 from Diehl, a missing Zippo lighter, and minor window damage. Local officers Sherm Correll and Virgil MacDonald assisted.

Small Fry Tourney Title Goes to Chadwick Team

Thomson's Small Fry baseball team suffered its first loss of the summer tourney, falling 8 to 0 to Chadwick in the final. Chadwick exploded for six runs in the fifth inning after scoring early, as Bruce Scheidegger earned the win on the mound.

Thomson Juniors Extend Winning Streak With Two Victories

The Thomson Junior League team posted two wins to improve to 7 wins and 2 losses. They defeated Mt. Carroll 12 hits and 7 runs behind Jim Falls who struck out 14 in a 7 to 0 decision, and then topped Shannon Juniors 9 to 1 on Falls 12 strikeouts with a grand slam by Bob Zink.

The Illinois Department of Conservation announces a duck blind drawing for Potter's Marsh and Savanna Ordnance Areas in Mississippi River Pool 13. The draw is at Lazy River Marina north of Savanna on July 29 at 2 p.m. CDT. registration runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Applicants 16 or older with 1966 or 1967 hunting licenses must be present. Regulations explained prior to drawing. blinds must be 150 yards apart. construction may start anytime. Copies of rules available from county conservation officers and at pool access points.
