Mrs Harley Wolfe and family of Hoopole joined the Evert Johnson family for a Sunday picnic. Miss Gayle Durward, a student nurse at Freeport Memorial Hospital, vacationed with the Les Durward family. Roy Fox is ill and under a physician care. Mr and Mrs V Dearinger visited Raymond Carroll recently. Miss Esther Schmaling is on an educational tour to the Hawaiian Islands. Mrs Eva Foltz has been indisposed for the past few days.

Swimming Lessons For Thomson Children Start July 24

Thomson youngsters can join six one hour swimming lessons at the Savanna pool. Classes begin Tuesday July 24 at 10 a m and meet Tuesdays and Thursdays until completed. Cost is $1 per lesson or $6 total. pre-beginners $5. Enroll via Mrs Paul Green or Mrs Harold Wilt.

School Boards Offer Contract To Alexis Man As School Head

The Thomson Community Consolidated School District boards met in a joint session on July 2 1962 to interview administrators for the co terminous district The action offered the position of administrator to John P Floyd at 8200 yearly Other motions authorized painting work and purchasing a tractor mower and blade for school property with specified costs A birthday party for Jane McGinnis aged 15 is reported with attendees and gifts.

Board Minutes Show Salary Adjustments for Districts 174 and 201

The board met July 10 1962 to arrange pro rated salary sharing for Floyd between districts 174 and 201 on a 66 2 3 and 33 1 3 percent basis with remaining 2800 split evenly. They set Floyds salary at 8200 for 11 1/2 months and approved travel expenses except for special trips. Transportation expenses were fixed at eight cents per mile. A mechanically bound minute book was approved for purchase. The joint session adjourned at 9 20 PM with separate special session for 174 district teachers applications adjourned at 10 50 PM.

Lettermen's Club Trip To Riverview Park Saturday

The Thomson Grade School Lettermen's Club and cheerleaders will travel to Riverview Park in Chicago on Saturday July 14. Thomson Ponies Win Two In Pony League

The Thomson Ponies defeated Chadwick 14 to 11 in a postponed game on July 5 with Terry Haas and Richie Buckley sharing pitching and catching duties. Buckley pitched a full game in a 12 to 5 Thomson win over Mt. Carroll with Haas catching. Thomson now stands 5 and 1. Pearl City leads the league. Milledgeville visits Thomson on Monday July 16 at 6 PM.

The Thomson Melon Tossers won two and lost one in a recent three game stretch. They beat Stockton 1 0 at the local field on Friday July 6, lost 10 3 to Phil lips on Sunday July 8, and won 12 4 against SOC boys on Monday July 9. John Feldt Celebrates 90th Birthday in Fulton

John Feldt of Fulton celebrated his 90th birthday Tuesday evening. His five children and families visited his home. Two cakes with ice cream and coffee were served. Attending from Thomson were son Leonard Feldt and his wife.

York Cedar 4-H Met Monday At Black Oak Grange

The York Cedar 4-H club met Monday evening July 9 at the Black Oak grange hall. Larry Carroll led with the 4-H pledge. A tour was discussed and a committee to set time, place and rides was appointed. Bills were ordered paid. Hoff and St Ores reported on last week’s Order per camp at White Eagle. Junior camp attendees Cheryl and Duane Hook were noted. Next meeting set for July 16 at Alber Prins home at 7 PM. Refreshments served.

Army Pvt Edward Hook Completes Fire Training At Fort Gordon

Army Pvt Edward A Hook 23 son of Mr and Mrs Fred Hook Thomson recently completed eight weeks of military fire training at Fort Gordon Georgia He learned civil and military law traffic control map reading prisoner of war control and self defense He entered the army last February after graduating York community high school in 1957 He was among 12 men chosen as Fort Gordon honor guards and was one of two sent to Fort Monroe Virginia as honor guards.

Thomson Church Plans Pew Purchases and Candle Stand Dedication

At a special meeting the Thomson Methodist church official board voted to purchase different pews for the church. In the following worship service a dedication ceremony was held for candle sticks donated by the Robert Plumley family.

Woman Injured When Fan Blades Fly Into Face
