Local notes and dances amid cold weather
Mrs. Chas Jenkins left for Quincey Illinois last Friday as her father’s health declines. A dance Friday evening drew few attendees due to cold. The club plans the next dance this Friday. J P Wilkins and Garrett Martins announce a closing out sale on Wednesday February 20 with stock and machinery described as notably new. Ed Poorman and Afton Stumphy settled with Mrs Baker of Fulton. Poorman’s horse injured her on Melon Festival day while Afton rode. Jenks Melendy visited Chicago Thursday and stayed with Mr and Mrs Harry Powers at the Briggs hotel. Chase and Groharing returned from Moline after Oscar’s barber exam. Chase had a haircut. Banks listed include Merchants Bank of Redfield International State Bank of Sioux Falls and Farmers and Merchants Bank of Hastings. Morris brothers, former Thomson residents, cited overextension of resources as cause for closing. A comic item notes a new remedy for cold with ostrich product claim. Train schedules show North Bound, South Bound, and Way Freight times.
