Roy Hinebaugh a former northwest of Chadwick shipped two carloads of cattle Sunday evening amid local cattle trade activity and crews reported no incidents at the yard.
Carroll county increases allocations across implements as dealers’ stocks clear and steel for manufacture rises. Quotas for tractors, planters, grain drills, dairy equipment, and other gear nearly double original levels with some items quadrupled. The committee reviews tillage and harvest machinery for spring rollout.
Geneva Kathryn Bowers and Sgt. George William Boguslavsky wed in Chicago with two attendants and turquoise outfits. Alice M. Groezinger and Pvt Jack R. Hoak married in Mineral Wells, Texas, with a dinner to follow. Charlotte Beth Adams and Lt. Joseph A. Mulline tied the knot in Chicago at St. Mark's Episcopal.
After the June annual meeting of Carroll County American Red Cross, volunteers collected and shipped a wide range of knitted garments and sewn items. Under chairs Mabel Greve and H. F. Whitney, garments for the army and navy include sweaters, scarves, mitts, caps, and socks, plus garments for refugees and numerous sewing projects totaling hundreds of items. Four hundred kit bags are being prepared for shipment under Mrs. Alonzo Brown’s direction.
Savanna mourns Maurice Meyer 28 formerly of Savanna notified Jan 20 of his death in action Jan 5 in North Africa. He is son of Mrs. Ivan Dol Meyer of Cedar Rapids Ia. His father served six years as Savanna city schools superintendent and Maurice was a Savanna high school graduate.
Yearly report by county nurse Mrs. Nell Fay Stewart details Carroll County tuberculosis control in 1942. It notes 112 patients healed or active, 72 moved out (23 in U S service), 7 sent to sanatoriums, 4 returned, 9 chest clinics with 270 examined and 284 x rayed, 1 918 patient visits, 209 physician visits, 108 hospital and school visits, 156 patient office calls, 342 tuberculin tests, 2 positives, 2 home hygiene classes with 40 students certified by Red Cross. Physically handicapped 2 cases, 48 carried over, 6 moved out, 1 patient two months hospital treatment, 6 diagnosed at clinics, 6 referred to state rehabilitation, 5 students in state colleges, 1 pending, 3 referred for braces and artificial limbs, 52 visits to handicapped patients.
Secretary of State Edward J. Hughes urged motorists to surrender old license plates to salvage depots across Illinois. Plates will be converted into steel for the war effort, in cooperation with the War Production Board and the Chicago Motor Club. Salvage boxes are placed at garages and filling stations statewide.
Mrs Ed Schreiner Mrs George Coden and Mrs John Geisz are named to organize World Day of Prayer at Hope Evangelical church with plans to be held soon. Oscar Rahn Mrs William Linker and Mrs Frank Cheeseman head the Hope church committee.
Court House News reports a marriage license issued to Jerome E. Rosenhoover and Virginia Huffman of Johnsonburg Pa. Tax bills for the 1942 assessment are being prepared by the County Treasurer and deputies as staff complete tax extension work. delays due to blank forms hinder timely processing. A divorce was granted in circuit court at Mt Cavell to Odonie Leinbach, petitioner Charles Henry Leinbach citing desertion. defendant living in Canada. The notice lists several warranty and quitclaim deeds transferring property in Milledgeville Lanark and surrounding areas to multiple grantees, including Richard Badtke, Max A. Sissy, and others, with parcels described by lot, block, and subdivision.
At Mt Carroll meeting of the Carroll County Taxpayers' association Ben Williamson of Mt Carroll was elected president for 1948. John K Morris of Lanark was his predecessor. Offiers include Paul Palmer Savanna first vice president Fred Nipe Argo-Fa second vice president Vernon Todd Milledgeville secretary and Charles Harris Chadwick treasurer. Todd and Harris were re elected. Principal speakers were Carl Ogden Freeport secretary of Stephenson county tax survey committee J H Eichelberger Freeport northern Illinois field representative of the Taxpayers' Federation of Illinois and J W H Shirk Milledgeville trustee of the state federation.
Lake Flickinger and Beattie of Lanark delivered 36 hogs averaging 290 pounds to the Chicago market selling at 15.05 per cwt the day’s top price for that weight. Other buyers from Shannon area farms included Johnson Moll Wall and Woessner with 245 to 337 pound hogs fetching around 15 per cwt. The last three lots set January highs for such heavy hogs in 25 years.
Gertrude Kipnis daughter of Harry Kipnis of Mt. Carroll was inducted into the WAAC and will report for training at Des Moines Georgia or Florida within days. She is a Savanna Township High School graduate who attended Mt. Clare girls school Clinton Ta and St. Xavier's college in Chicago. Her brother Sgt David Kipnis is at an officers training school at Fort Sill Oklahoma.
Mrs Kenneth Whitney hosted her bridge club on Wednesday evening at her residence. Several members attended, enjoying an evening of cards and conversation.
The Carroll County selective service board lists men ordered to report to an induction station for potential entry into the U S land or naval forces. This marks the county’s first call-up since mid December, naming individuals including Turks, Ludke, Murphy, Kuhse, Pilgrim, and Hubble among others.
Vernon Vaniman, Midwest area director of the American Farm Bureau Federation, will be the principal speaker at the Carroll County Farm Bureau annual meeting Saturday. The 10 a.m. session at Mt. Carroll High School gym will include reports from farm adviser, organization director, insurance director, and treasurer, followed by lunch. The afternoon program features director elections, a president, and delegates to the state federation meeting, with performances by the Lanark High School quartet and Lanark School Band.
Carroll chapter Daughters of the American Revolution completes plans for its 14th annual luncheon to be served at 1 p.m. February 15 at the Hotel Glenview Mt Carroll. Committee members from Savanna and Mt Carroll oversee the event and an open meeting for interested women follows the luncheon at the Community clubhouse. DAR speaker Vinton Sisson of Chicago holds national offices. Delegates to state and national conventions are named with alternates. Guests at the last meeting attended the program including a book review and musical solos.
The War Production Board last week approved a 30 percent rise in farm machinery production after a Senate committee warned of grave danger to meeting goals. The WPB also earmarked 50,000 tons more Bessemer steel for early 1943 for farm equipment under the Food for Victory program and raised steel tonnage for repair parts to 167 percent of 1940 output.

Carroll, widow of Albert Petty, leaves three daughters and a son. Other obituaries include William Horstick of Savanna, John W. Smith of Mt. Carroll, Edward Walsh of Savanna, Harvey Phillips of Mt. Carroll, and Mrs. John Warfield of Mt. Carroll, with survivors listed and burial plans at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Members of the Merry Circle club will hold an all day meeting Thursday February 4 at the home of Mrs Carrie Hinebaugh of Mt Carroll. Mrs Emma Van Buskirk and Mrs Clarence Van Buskirk will serve as assistant hostess.
A. Spanogle 72 prominent Milledgeville business leader and long time head of Milledgeville Mutual Telephone died of a heart attack at his home Sunday. He had been at work Saturday night and died after midnight with his wife notifying a physician. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1:10 pm at his home and 2 pm at Milledgeville Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Paul Miller and Rev. E. Y. Knoop. Burial in Lanark cemetery. He leaves six children and several grandchildren. He was a former elevator worker turned farmer then president and treasurer and later manager of the telephone company. He also served as justice of the peace Wysex township and on the town board of auditors. He was a member of the Methodist church and Masonic bodies. He had long participated in Milledgeville affairs.
Eleventh annual meeting and election of directors scheduled for Tuesday February 2 at the Chadwick school building. Reports on last year's business will be read, two directors will be elected, and a program of movies prizes and refreshments will be offered.
A Savanna meeting formed a local union of the National Federation of Federal Employees. Fifty membership applications were sent to federation headquarters in Washington for a charter. Harry Guest of Savanna was named temporary chairman. Officers will be elected next month. Several Rock Island Arsenal workers spoke at the gathering.
Donald Anderson of Chadwick Illinois bought a registered Holstein-Friesian heifer from H. A. Malloy of Hartford Wisconsin. The transfer was recorded by the Holstein-Friesian Association of America in Brattleboro Vermont as part of 1941 registrations. Other attendees at a related event included Dale Mayden Clint Lyle Asshby and Sherm Ley Suncay.
