Reno Switzer 83 of Boise Idaho died Monday morning. He was born December 9 1877 to Washington H and Rachel Phillips Switzer former Thomson residents. He married Lina Holland in 1902. Survived by wife one daughter Mrs Irving Frank one son LaVonne Switzer six grandchildren one sister Mrs Fern Brenneman of Alma Michigan and one brother Otto of Thomson plus nieces and nephews. Burial details unavailable.
Mr and Mrs Arthur R Sister of Hanover of announce the engagement of their daughter Shirley Jean Flies to Jerry Biederman son of Mr and Mrs Jennings Biederman of Thomson Illinois The wedding is planned for June 10 at Hanover Methodist Church Miss Flies will graduate from Hanover High School this year.

Mr and Mrs Lynn Babcock of Sterling dined with the Rupple family Saturday. The Carroll family hosted visitors from Fulton for Angela Dykstra’s second birthday. Anna Carroll joined her son and daughter in Mt Carroll for the winter, while Fred Hook and family visited the Carrolls midweek.
Mr and Mrs William B Nienkark express gratitude to friends relatives and neighbors for cards flowers and gifts received on their 35th wedding anniversary noting the day will long be remembered.
The Thomson Lions Club dinner meeting heard a report on a recent general sanitation survey of Thomson conducted by Illinois Public Health officials. The town with 600 people relies on private sewage, open dumps, and mosquito problems along the Mississippi edge. recommendations include phasing out privies, installing septic tanks, closing the dump, and pursuing village sewer options. Funeral services were held for Emma Holland, a Thomson lifelong resident, at York Community Church with burial in Lower York Cemetery.

Mr and Mrs Wayne Paarman and daughter of DeWitt visited with Mr and Mrs Robert Plumley and family last Friday evening. Mr and Mrs Ernest Rathje hosted a party Saturday with guests from Dubuque Marion Bellevue Sabula Clinton Town Rockford Hanover Savanna and Fulton Illinois. Mrs Bertha Mayhall of Galesburg returned Sunday to her home after visiting her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Bruce Groharing and family.
Joann Jurgens of York Community High School scores highest on a homemaking exam and becomes a candidate for the state Homemaker of Tomorrow award. The $110,000 General Mills program offers scholarships up to $5,000 and an All-American title, with prizes for top finishers.
Mr and Mrs Henry Maring of Ames Iowa celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 7 with a family dinner at The Manor East Creek. Forty relatives attended including their six children Charles Button Ames Douglas Retallick Marshville James Maring Palatine Bridge Harry Robert and Charles Maring Ames. George Maring of Camaporharie N Y died in 1945. The couple received an anniversary clock and inscribed plaque a corsage and boutonniere for the couple and a 50 year emblem on their cake amid many greetings and gifts during the week.
About 400 neighbors gathered at the Vogel home last Friday for a surprise farewell party as Mr and Mrs Gera dus Vogel move to a farm near Garden Plain. A group gift was given and guests enjoyed card games and refreshments brought by attendees.
Mrs. Arlene Korbar resigns from her role as part time book keeper and stenographer at Thomson State Bank. Mrs. Mary B. Clikeman is hired as her successor to the position. Sunday visitors from Fulton include Mr. and Mrs. Jan Faber and Kim, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Prins, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ven Huizen and Colleen, who visited the Prins family with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Albert Prins.
Mr and Mrs Melvin Kutler announce the birth of Patricia Ann on Saturday January 21 at Savanna Hospital weighing 9 pounds 2 1 2 ounces Mr and Mrs Larry Erling of Long Grove Iowa announce the birth of Christine Marie on January 11 at DeWitt hospital weighing 7 pounds 7 ounces Paternal grandparents are Ray Erling of Long Grove and former Thomson residents.
Nellie May Preston Schade 91 died at 7 p m Monday in her Thomson home. Funeral services were held today at Fay funeral home Fulton with Rev Lowell D Allen officiating. Burial in Lower York Cemetery. Survived by three daughters Marie Crow Delbert Dimmick and Glendora Schade seven grandchildren ten great grandchildren.
Mrs. John C. Atherton reports the Mothers' March polio fund drive raised 114.69 with Thomson at 89.54, Grandview 5.75, and Argo Fay 19.40. A Riverview canvass is expected soon while volunteers from Thomson Grandview and Argo Fay participated and gathered at the grade school for refreshments.
The Thomson American Legion Auxiliary met on Thursday January 19 at 7 46 in the Legion Hall with guest Mrs Ida Baker of Renton Washington. President Lorraine Bissens thanked members for hospital flowers and accepted Myrtle Youngs resignation as Coupons Chair. Hazel Fehler becomes Coupon Chair and Jerry Ash will be Color Bearer.
Mr and Mrs William Mullen and their sons visited Mrs Edna Mullen in Clinton for supper Saturday. Carl Petersen stayed with Jens Andresen in Chadwick as the Andresens visited Maine with Roger and Mary Ladd. Harold Mullen returned from Germany with his parents. Vernon Workman saw his grandparents Everett Vanderlaan in Fulton and visited his uncle Lawrence Schroeder in Morrison.
Students and teachers share weekly activities from Grade 1 to Grade 8. Absent due to flu, snowman crafts, spelling and math progress, birthday treats, film viewing, and new units in social studies and science are noted. The 8th grade team works on The Crusader yearbook while planning a school trip for April 28 with bake sale plans. Couple celebrating 35th anniversary with family gathering is also recorded.
