The Lanark High School band performed as the Boy Scout group lent support under scoutmaster Rev Martin. The domestic science department served lunch after the program.

Farm Home North of Savanna Burns Early Tuesday
Fire destroyed the Frank Hatfield farm home north of the Palisades State Park early Tuesday morning. Hatfield woke his wife and alerted his son for help as Savanna firefighters could not save the structure for lack of water. The house, rebuilt on the site of a prior fire seven years ago, was uninsured with only a few clothing items saved.

Tarroll farmer loses four fingers in meat grinder
George Weidman, a county farmer near Mt. Carroll, suffered a severe accident Friday when his right hand entangled in a power sausage grinder. All four fingers were ground to pieces. He was treated by a local physician and later moved to Sir Francis Hospital in Freeport.

State to Acquire Part of Rattlesnake Woods for Park Site
Governor Horner via State Director Robert C. Kingery will acquire a 2 mile long by 300 feet wide stretch of virgin timber along Terrapin Ridge on US 20 between Elizabeth and Galena.
