The county board in Mt. Carroll authorized a two story addition to the courthouse annex. The public buildings committee was instructed to obtain specifications and contract for erection. The extra space will house records for the permanent registration system and provide additional office space. The plan includes a second floor county court room and a supervisors room, with the ground floor split into two rooms connecting to the county and circuit clerks.

Federal auto use tax stamps will go on sale at post offices January 26 and every automobile owner must obtain one by February 1. Each stamp costs 2.09 and is valid until June 30, with a renewal due by July 1, 1943. Atkins' license revoked for one year after DUI guilty plea
LeRoy Atkins 32 Savanna was notified by the Iowa state public safety department that his driver’s license is revoked for one year. Atkins pleaded guilty December 9 in Clinton court to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, fined 300 dollars with 200 suspended. He held an Iowa license due to work in a Clinton manufacturing plant.

Carroll county farmers can buy 30 percent raw rock phosphate through the AAA conservation materials program at 12.80 per ton. Residents watched coal piles dwindle and thermometers climb from minus 25 to minus 30 toward the freezing point. After a week of subzero lows of minus 20 or colder, warmer weather on Sunday through Tuesday melted much of the snow while highways remained slick and hazardous for motorists.
