Fire of unknown origin destroyed the two story eight room frame house of Mr and Mrs Edward Dauphin east of Savanna around 1236 pm December 27 with losses pegged above 8000 dollars. Family and guests at dinner heard the upstairs alarm and only a few living room articles were saved as the second floor collapsed. Savanna firemen faced heavy flames and water shortages on arrival. The Dauphins now reside with their son Neal on an adjoining farm.

Jail Man For Trying To Pass Worthless Check
Clarence Lund, lacking an address, was jailed in Carroll county on $500 bond for obtaining goods under false pretenses. He was nabbed at the Burlington depot by Officer Frank Laine as he attempted to board a train after purchasing $42 worth of merchandise with a $68 check drawn on a Wisconsin bank. Schmei reported the suspect left a Thompson address, cash was recovered, and Lund waived preliminary hearing before being remanded. A $50 Savanna bank check and a prior attempt to cash a similar check at Royal Blue store were found on him.
