Robt Groharing notes that selling insurance can occur year round. On Tuesday a client from three miles east of Albany requested a policy immediately. Return home at noon, he anticipated free afternoon, but a second call soon arrived from Spring Valley asking for coverage. He went to both places and secured the business, a sign that customers want prompt service.
Savanna basketball heads to the YCHS Gym this Friday January 7 as Big S8-Smith Strauch Switzer Stage Switzer aim for a fifth win this season. Admission 15 and 25 cents. Next week January 14 Thomson travels to Albany with Savanna game on January 15. Hanover visits Thonon on January 21 after a 10 11 home trim.
George Strubb reports his sister Mrs Nellie Edel has died at her California home shortly before Christmas. She had lived there for many years and was formerly from this locality.
Historic region and Geronimo legend frame Fox’s The Golden Strain. The film, directed to be historically accurate, explores Cochise fortifications and Geronimo’s escape attempts, with Seitz and Kyrie shaping the motion picture in collaboration with Fox Films.

Reverend Williams of the local Methodist church reports a New Year’s Day wedding between John Norton of Savanna Proving Grounds and Miss Leeilla M Pankow of Savanna. They secured a license in Mt Carroll, traveled to Fulton, then returned to Thomson to remain in the county. This was Rev Williams’ first offense since becoming pastor and he likely made a New Year’s resolution for happiness and success to all brides and grooms of 1927.
The Lewis Motor Company loaded a carload of Whippets on Tuesday and reports the cars are attractive. A slight price reduction is also noted, making the vehicles more appealing to buyers.
French and Gaar announce a complete dispersal sale of 48 accredited Holsteins at Meadow Vale Farm on Tuesday January 18. The offer highlights cows with strong dairying records and breeding from top herds in Rock River Farms Illinois and Iowa’s Davenport operation, plus prolific examples like Rock River Johanna Aggie. The sale seeks to showcase proven milk and butter yields under practical, home-town management.
Bob Haeger, famed Holstein auctioneer, has been secured to conduct the French and Gaar sale at Thomson on January 18. He has attended major auctions for years, brings deep Holstein knowledge, and will advise bidders on this herd, touted as among the best under standard records in Illinois.
York township and this community boasted the first contesting association in Illinois. Fifteen years ago the Gaar and French herd joined as origin members and preserved their enthusiasm. They began with a few pure-breds and built a large herd now recognized as among the best in the region.
Rush Carroll bought two Holstein sires arriving this week from Rock River Farm in Byron. One three-year-old steers at about 1900 pounds and regarded as a standout. The Rock River Farm previously supplied Johanne Ang wie stock for a significant dispersal sale on January 16.
After holiday break, campuses reopen with students returning to classes. The mood is upbeat as the new year begins, signaling renewed effort and plans for upcoming term activities across colleges.

Hansen and Schreiner lost husbands in December. Rudolph Holm's birthday hosted by Holm family. Mildred Holland from Thomson visited. A tag sale raised funds well. Donell J. Ratinson and family from Savannah were guests of Arthur Rabinasa. Chas Nipe and sister visited New Year’s Day. Joe Sikkema entertained guests at a six o'clock dinner. New Year skating party at Thomson drew many locals. George Hicks family hosted visitors on New Year’s Day. Victor Carleson set a February 9 sale for surplus land as they move to Iowa. Melendy family hosted guests for New Year’s Day. Pete Hansen sold his farm, moved to his mother’s home. Mrs Lewis Manning of Low Moor visited Henry Stoner’s, Velma Sack helping at Ed Bast’s near Chadwick. A newborn son on Dec 31 at Savanna hospital. Paul Dulither bought a Ford for farm use. John Vols hosted guests at Paint Avenue.
