Sidelights from Springfield on Property Tax Inequities
Senator Pi argues Illinois tax system unfairly burdens seniors and farmers with high property taxes while income tax reform or a flat rate could reduce real estate levies. He cites Mr and Mrs Smith and notes corrections on loan interest rates and broader state tax fairness. He warns public indifference hinders change. Also reports Holstein production records from Chadwick with two cows yielding over 15,000 pounds milk yearly.

He notes feeders delaying sales to limit taxes, creating heavier cattle and more on feed, which pressured prices. He recalls a steer selling for 25.50 when 30.50 would’ve been possible in late 1962.
