A statewide list shows thirteen Northern Illinois county fairs for August and September. The ninth Carroll County Fair runs August 8 to 13 at Schell Park near Milledgeville and is described as among the state’s largest. The report notes 105 groups seeking state aid and reminds fairs must declare intent by April 1. Other fairs include DeKalb Sycamore August 1-2 and Whiteside Morrison August 16-19 among many dates across Jo Daviess, Lee, McHenry, Stephenson, Bureau, Ogle, LaSalle and more. The Illinois State Fair is set for August 11-20 in Springfield.
Illinois Public Aid Commission reports December caseloads across five programs rose by about 20 000, driven by economic conditions and seasonal factors. Carroll county shows no statewide surge in overall aid but notes more general assistance seekers. totals include 39 dependent children with 1 609 dollars, blind 165 dollars, disability 5 with 347 dollars, general 117 with 1 342 87 dollars, and old age 132 with 9 829 dollars.
The centennial marks a Fun Division led by Mrs. Earl Liston for the ladies and Harlan Carbaugh for the men. Sunday calls at Mrs Myrta Groharing and Bessie Groharing included Mr and Mrs Fred Groharing and daughters, Mr and Mrs Dana Cobb, and Mr and Mrs Paul Nice of Morrison.

Lanark Beavers trailed by five after the first period but surged in the second to defeat Mt Carroll 78 to 61 in a conference game at Lanark. Parod and Olson led Lanark with 24 and 28 points while Kurth and Fritz paced Mt Carroll with 18 and 14. Mt Carroll won the preliminary 41 to 33.
Shimer lost 76 67 in overtime at Mt Carroll Eureka College defeated Shimer 76 67 in overtime. John Alexander scored 31 for Eureka Warde McKee had 19 and Les Davis 16 for Shimer The game was 30 30 at halftime and 63 63 after regulation. Sharon Kay Kness engaged to LaVerne Buntjer of Milledgeville with no wedding date yet.
Governor Otto Kerner proclaims February as Heart Month and urges citizens and service groups to support the 1961 Heart Fund drive. Region 1 volunteers across Carroll Boone Jo Daviess Lee Ogle Stephenson and Winnebago counties will canvass on Heart Sunday February 26 to fund heart research and education programs.
Mt Carroll AAUW branch hosts its regular meeting Monday evening February 27 at 8 o'clock in the home of Mrs. Wm Niedermeyer. Mass Media panel led by Mrs Robert Keohane will explore How Good is TV with members Mrs Duncan McBride Mrs Bernard Kneale Mrs Frank Nester Mrs C G Piper Mrs John McKenney and Mrs Keohane presenting various facets of television and code standards. Hostesses include Miss Ruby Baxter Zella Corbett Grace Wright and Mmes Homer Kearnaghan and Fred Tremper with Mrs Glenn Wise as Publicity Chairman.
The Lanark Rocketts 4-H club met at Mrs Schoonhoven's home on Saturday February 18. President Sandra Gravenstine led the session which set a date for a roller skating party. Demonstrations covered cookies elastic hems scarf making meatloaf pockets and safety. Refreshments and games followed the adjournment.
Carroll county leads Illinois in deer highway fatalities with 81 killed in 1960. Lodge notes many more hit and unrecovered. statewide total rises 46 from 1959. Others listed include Jo Daviess 61 and Winnebago 38.

Allen Airhart announced the 30th annual meeting of Carroll Service Co to be held Saturday in the Mt. Carroll high school gym. Reports will detail 12 months of operations and member input is urged for future plans. Charles Alexander of Illinois Farm Supply Co. will speak. Gearry Sisters provide entertainment. lunch served.

June Rahn of Oregon and Mrs Grace Livingston were Saturday guests of Mr and Mrs Vernon Shuman in Chicago. Friday supper guests included Mr and Mrs Orval Rahn and family and Joann Housenga. Mr and Mrs Ernest Sturtevant and Sandra were dinner guests Sunday of Mr and Mrs Keith Kniss at Lanark.
Nearly 500 guests attended the Carroll County Livestock Feeders Association 15th annual banquet in Chadwick with a prime roast beef dinner served by Chadwick High School. Highlights included remarks by Dave Livingston of Washington IA and Illinois official Williams warning of illegal hog sales. Awards, door prizes, and a closing benediction followed, with plans announced for a Shannon March meeting.
The 4 H organization committee met February 17 at the Home Economics Extension office in Mt. Carroll to set a county goal of 283 members for 1961 and outline club quotas. Indian Maids of Savanna and Rockettes of Lanark have already surpassed their targets with gains of 9 and 7 members respectively. Any 10 to 20 year old can join a 4 H club.
Savanna resident Roy King 77 died at Savanna city hospital after two days as a patient. Funeral held at St. John’s Catholic church with burial in St. John’s cemetery. Infant Michael R. Wacker died shortly after birth in Clinton Mercy hospital. burial in Savanna’s Babyland Cemetery. Surviving relatives include King’s wife Nellie Louise Field and three daughters, two sisters, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Wacker’s parents and four siblings survive.
Mr and Mrs Elvin Rockrohr of Clinton Iowa visited Mrs Bowles aunt Miss Sophia Misfeldt Sunday afternoon at St Luke s hospital in Davenport and were evening visitors with Mr and Mrs A E Bowles in Moline.
Hel Maur Anthony Ruby 44 20964 owned by Lewis H. Cram and Wilmer L. Smith Chadwick posted 12 854 pounds of milk and 475 pounds of butterfat in 340 days on twice daily milking as a four year old. University of Illinois supervised the weighing and testing as part of the official herd testing programs spanning 2 800 participating registered Holstein herds. Mr and Mrs C Mackey visited Mr and Mrs Marvin Vietmeier in Lanark Monday.
