Officials Named to Handle Savanna Tourney Next Month

W. P. Hafermann Savanna regional tournament manager announced that P. M. Furr and J. H. Trees of DeKalb will officiate at the Savanna tournament in March. Neither official has refereed here before.

Taxes Rise in York and Fair Haven Townships in 1935

Tax records show York and Fair Haven Townships increasing overall levies in 1935 with county taxes rising while most other levies fell. Total township taxes reach 30 181.43 in York and 33 825.1 in Fair Haven, amid a drop in total assessed property value from 1 228 883 in 1834 to 1 206 295 in 1935 and a 1 700 rise in Fair Haven’s tax total.

Application Blanks For Old Age Pension Are Distributed

Old age pension officials announce distribution of application blanks through local newspapers offices and town clerks and county welfare board offices. Judge O M Grove says headquarters will be set up in Mt Carroll Court House with a superintendent to handle investigations and office details while federal approval governs possible monthly pensions.

Doctor Arrives Too Late To Assist In Birth

A daughter Doris Ann was born to Mr and Mrs Walter Storm on their Chadwick area farm Saturday morning. The doctor could not reach the home due to drifting roads, despite farmers clearing drifts to aid access. Both mother and baby were reported to be doing as well as could be expected.

Fulton Residence Razed by Flames in Friday Night Fire

A Fulton residence was destroyed by a blaze caused by a stove fire at about 4 o'clock Friday night. Sparks from the chimney set the northwest corner ablaze, with wind fanning the flame and hindering efforts to contain it. Furniture on the first floor was saved, but much of the second floor was damaged, and insurance covered the property.

Wysox Shows 2000 Dollar Tax Raise in 1935

Tax bills for Wysox township total 44 072 96 in 1935 up from 42 078 99 last year while assessed valuation rose to 1 641 650 from 1 679 540 in 1934. Carrier notes indicate Elkhorn Grove is among few townships to show a decrease. Preparations for a county banker snail tournament are under way in Mt Carroll with six area schools entering.

On Wednesday February 26 Lanark faces the winner of game 1 in game 3 and Milledgeville plays the winner of game 2 in game 4. Thursday February 27 features game 5 the consolation between losers of games 3 and 4, and game 6 the championship between winners of games 3 and 4. Coach Walker announced admission prices set at 25 cents for adults 15 cents for high school students and 10 cents for grade students. No games Tuesday night due to a conflict at the high school.
