Loan committee members are Ben Williamson, Davis J. Grouse and R. B. Gelwicks. Alternate loan committee members are Lee Lundy of Wacker, Clyde Broadwater of Lanark, and Edward McGinty of Thorton.
A county Agricultural Conservation chart lists 1746 farms averaging 168.3 acres, with 112.7 tillable acres and 60.3 acres of soil depleting allotment. It notes 132 percent general productivity, 33.2 acres corn allotment, and 42.6 bushels per acre corn yield overall, plus township specifics for Fair Haven York Salem Rock Creek Lima Cherry Grove Elkhorn Grove Wysex Freedom Mt. Fellow reps John A. Bingham of Galena and G C Franz of Freeport also named to multiple panels. Bingham chairs the reapportionment committee and serves on Agriculture banks and building and loan associations appropriations enrolling transcribing and typing farm drainage industrial affairs public utilities. Franz joins Agriculture appropriations elections farm drainage liquor regulations roads and bridges.
Tickets for Carroll county s first Lincoln Day dinner go on sale late this week through the Young Republicans and county Republican ladies division. Melvin Finer reports plans practically finished with Swiss steak as main dish and a Wheaton attorney Charles Hadley as the main speaker. Nine high school band members will provide music as the gym is lit by candles for the event.
At a Carroll County tuberculosis association meeting the seal sale chairman reported a total Christmas seal sale of 579.62 with 343.81 from schools and 205 from mail orders. The report lists each school and area contributions. The group plans to fund a tuberculin testing program for seniors at Carroll County high schools with x ray pictures for positive reactors, starting later this school year.

A Chicago area storm that dumped heavy snow and halted travel missed Carroll county and the northwest portion of the state. Tuesday night brought wintry blasts with more snow predicted, while icy roads and closures affected traffic and schools in the Chicago area and central Illinois.
About 800 stockholders and guests are expected at the annual meeting of the Blackhawk Production Credit Association at the Odd Fellows Temple in Freeport on February 2, 1989. F. F. Illinois public health sponsors a county immunization survey to determine how many children have had contagious diseases and whether they have received immunization. Schools provide blanks for each child to record past diseases, vaccinations, dates, and family doctor, plus an optional guardian consent form for diphtheria smallpox and typhoid vaccines. Participation is voluntary to aid disease control.
A meeting is set for tomorrow in the circuit court room in Mt Carroll to discuss purchasing adequate rural fire fighting equipment. All interested parties are urged to attend around 1 or 2 PM to plan securing a truck for farm fire suppression, noting Mt Carroll currently has only a small local truck.
Donald W. Schroeppel 33 of Chicago the Mt Carroll native died at 3 am Saturday in Michael Reese hospital Chicago. Born June 22 1905 he is survived by wife two sons Robert and John two daughters Donna Mae and Mary Elizabeth his mother Mrs Mary E Schroppel of Mt Carroll two brothers Herman of Seattle and Harold of Glen Rock N J and four sisters Mrs W H Hawk Mrs Roscoe Almquist of Mt Carroll Mrs C A Doty of Savanna and Miss Margaret of Chicago.
Leaf River defeated Shannon varsity 37 to 7 and the reserves 18 to 2 on Saturday night. Motter led Leaf River with seven field goals and a free throw while Brinkmeier Bush and Gertamy led Shannon. Shannon failed to score in the first period and could not recover despite scoring 13 in the final period.
A survey of traffic records shows no automobile fatalities in Carroll, Lee, Jo Daviess, and Ogle counties for January. White Sulphur and Stephenson counties each reported one motor death for the month.

Frances Shimer Junior College in Mt Carroll will host prominent speakers before Easter. On Feb 12 attorney Charles Hadley, Dr. James M. Yard, Dr. William F. Clarke, and Rabbi Samuel M. Blumenfeld will lead a round table on racial religious issues. Feb 19 features Dr Mortis Fishbein on health superstitions. Additional speakers include Dr Thomas Kopler and Mrs Ruth Hildebrandt Fender with dates to be announced.
Taxpayers in the county face a delay in receiving 1938 tax bills as blank forms from the printer have not yet arrived. County treasurer clerks expect to mail bills by May 1 or slightly earlier, despite the late start. About 9,000 bills are prepared annually in triplicate, a process requiring about three months. The first installment is due June 1, with thirty days for payment after issuance.
Miss Mary Schaut, superintendent, reports January old age assistance in the county to 407 clients with total payments of 6591 dollars. The average award was 16.19 dollars. Four new awards, four reinstatements, and one transfer of a pension recipient occurred. Six cancellations in January include five due to death and one for another reason.
Savanna township’s total tax bill for 1938 shows a small decrease from 1937, with 1938 figures at 114 232.22 compared to 114 257 in 1937. The county extension figures detail totals for the various taxing bodies in the town for the two years.
Mt Carroll township reports its total tax bill for 1938 at 876770.89 compared with 76745.03 in 1937. County and township levies rise while several school districts and the road and bridge fund show decreases, leaving the overall figure near 1937 levels. A table lists totals for each taxing body within the township.
Savanna cagers defeated DeWitt 36 to 14 in a town league game on Friday night. Nightingale and Meyers led Savanna with nine points each, while Joy and Waad top-scored for DeWitt. Savanna dominated every quarter and held DeWitt scoreless in the final period. Savanna reserves won 19 to 6 in the preliminary.
Checks totaling seventy five thousand dollars were distributed to four hundred forty six Carroll farmers in early week payments. The distribution supports local agricultural relief efforts and marks a timely aid to farming households amid seasonal demands.
Carroll county farmers receive $74,996.12 in 1938 conservation payments today and tomorrow at the county conservation office. 456 checks arrived Saturday and Monday. 885 checks total valued at $143,828.15 have been received for reexam benefits. 114 corn loan applications received, 83 loans completed covering 71,116 bushels totaling $40,526.12. Loans available until April 1, 1939, with ten days left to apply for timely completion.
Carroll Service company announces its annual meeting in Mt. Carroll on Saturday February 4. Seven directors will be elected for the coming year and reports on the organization’s progress will be presented. More than 22000 dollars will be distributed as patronage dividend checks to patrons this year.
The Carroll County association will meet Monday February 16 at Frances Shimer College. Dinner will be served at noon. Rev Boening of the First Lutheran Chadwick will deliver an address on The State of the European Protestant Church and the Attitude of the Dictators.
