Social Security changes boost benefits for many children

More than 900000 children now receive survivors benefits and about 400000 will see increases under the 1960 amendments. Each child’s monthly share rises to three quarters of the worker’s would‑have‑been retirement amount, with auto adjustments starting in January 1961. Some families with multiple children or already at the maximum may not see immediate gains.
