Crank Mo Withhart of Savanna lost the forefinger of his right hand Sunday while hunting on the Jurgens farm north of the city. The accidental discharge severely injured the finger, with amputation considered. doctors said the loss will not prevent him from hunting at the OLare.
Savanna youth dies in Texas Tuesday morning after a long illness. The deceased, a senior at Pevis High School, was noted for athletic and academic achievements. Survived by brother Keith and parents, with several relatives from Savanna and Lavane township.
State welfare officials issued a ruling requiring relatives to assist aging parents if able. Children over 18 must volunteer support or explanation otherwise the parent may face action. Bids to clear timber from two parcels of land totaling about 2,580 acres for the pool above Dam No 13 on the Mississippi River north of Fulton are being prepared by U S Engineers. Parcel 1 will bid opening December 9 and Parcel 2 December 14 with operations to begin early winter. The work covers land four miles upstream from the dam and up to the level the water may reach, removing timber and obstructions.
High school boys basketball opens in Garrell County with Savannah Milledgeville scheduled for opener. Lanark hosts Chadwick, Thomson meets Milledgeville at Millie’s, Mt. Carroll travels to Shannon, Savanna to Hanover, and others from Fulton Morrison participate. Several games set for coming week with mixed expectations.
Russell Miller a 14 year old youth son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Miller of negy Dageds sustained a palm wound when he accidentally shot himself with a rifle last week. Medical workers treated the injury and he remained under observation.
