Corn silage tips and rainfall impact on yields
A local agricultural note discusses corn silage timing, kernel denting, and moisture content affecting digestibility and yield. It cites rainfall, soil organic matter, and weed control as key factors, and warns coons steal sweet corn when lights stay on. It also records county fund figures and board actions from a county meeting, including drainage work and court heating repairs.
Dry month yields less face fly trouble and silage tips
The note covers dry June reducing face fly buildup and suggests corn silage as hay substitute for dairy rations. It recommends an 18 percent protein grain mix if full-feeding silage and limiting alfalfa to six pounds per cow daily. It also reports Illinois trials with limestone in silage showing no milk gain. Dreams and memory aside, the text ends with a casual digression on dreaming.
