Melon Season Opens Heralds Welcome Local Sales
Melon season begins with out of town buyers scouring the ridge for sweet fruit. Ed Williams sold a $1 melon to a Sterling buyer at 25 cents each. Hart Holman and Jake Miller offered several dozen melons along with other growers. Townspeople expect large melon sales as more visitors arrive for Melon Day next September 1. Travelers from Sterling Mt Morris and other areas inquire about purchases while plans for visits to Springfield State Fair and trips to Jacksonville NL and Waverly Illinois are noted. Local ball players played Morrison Spring Valley, winning 7 to 0, with Bill Strubb and Bayard Cole in the lineup. Mrs. W A Adams and daughter Arleene shopped in Davenport.

Thomson Review Raises Yearly Subcription to Two Dollars
Effective September 1 1927 the Thomson Review will charge 2.00 annually due to higher printing costs. Subscribers may prepay at the old rate before September 1 1927 and Calvin Strauch the printer's devil plans to leave for school this fall possibly to electrical or business studies. Melon Day draws a capacity crowd with over 1000 melons promised, Thomson residents plan a festive village day. Mr M J McGinty departed for Kimball South Dakota for an extended visit visiting Emerson and niece Mrs Edith Adams. Mr and Mrs Garret Bolhous and their daughter left for a brief Chicago business trip returning home soon. Clarence Bolhous is in charge of stores in their absence.
