In ChicagoSaturday hundreds of well dressed youths gathered for the Janraal Chicagoland Music Festival. Two Carroll county groups Chadwick school Ivand Lanark concert band and Fort Teston under Miss Beth Hower entered class D contests. Judges scored tone instrumentation tempo and more as bands performed one required and one chosen piece. Final results list Kitsilano Boys Band Vancouver First and Chicago Boys Club second with the host event ending in a colorful field show.
July in Carroll County saw more births than deaths. County Clerk Walter Watson reports sixteen deaths and births favoring births by two. Notable deaths include 83 year olds Saint Louie Dyson of Thomson and Morris W. Copley of Mt Carroll pol. The youngest death was a month old infant of Mr and Mrs Oscar Whipple. Four non natural deaths occurred including drownings, a fall at a Mt Carroll home, and one self inflicted. Birth listings enumerate names and birthplaces from Shannon to Savanna with dates from July 1 to July 12.
One of the state’s best known newspaper men, Mt Feezer, as Commercial Club chamithan, extends a cordial welcome to visitors for Mt Carroll Home Coming. He will be at the Mirror-Democrat office to greet old and new friends during the three day celebration. He has worked with committees to advertise the splendid program statewide and secured WLS stars for entertainment. Activities run from Thursday morning start to Saturday evening finish.

Watson notes election officials may be paid two days only if votes meet thresholds. otherwise a single day pay applies in other elections. The daily fee for judges and clerks was reduced from 6 to 35.
Mt Carroll prepares for a three day Home Coming August 24 to 26 with crowds expected to attend. Visitors must register at the Mirror Democrat or Community House. The program features Grace Reynolds Squires singing Home Coming Song, WLS entertainers, blackface comedy, baseball games daily, a carnival, and a grand float parade led by the Mt Carroll Band.
Thomson hosts the ninth annual Melon Day with 5000 free melons for visitors. The event features sports, speeches, ball games, and a lengthy band concert followed by a Melon Night dance, as planners expect a large turnout and joyous memories for all attendees.
