Savanna readies a big Melon Festival on September 6 featuring two afternoon ball games Sterling versus Platteville Wise and Savanna versus Maquoketa plus brass bands water sports horseshoe pitching foot races and a pavement dance. Melon growers donate a carload for on grounds giveaway. Local business and residents showcase the melon district south of Savanna and around Thomson with ships of melons heading nationwide.
Raymond L Porter returns to Rock Island after summer with his uncle E B Porter and friends. Hazel Smith ends a stay with aunt and uncle Ben Gilbert and family of Polo Mississippi. Mr and Mrs Gilbert and three daughters accompany her home. Sam Lord receives a Portland Oregon letter from Alfred Schmaling saying they will be in Los Angeles in five days.
