Milledgeville crowds set a new two year high for the Carroll County Fair with a three day run Tuesday to Thursday. The tractor pulling contest drew an estimated four to five thousand spectators and the grandstand stayed full from 7 p m to 1 a m. Cool weather aided an overall successful event with a Wednesday parade featuring floats cars horses ponies bikes and comic characters. Judging covered cattle swine rabbits sheep crafts and foods while gate receipts surpassed last year. Plans for next year are already underway though no specifics were announced.

Sheriff Harry Miller announced the new electrically timed speed recorder has arrived and will be set in Carroll County towns. In Mt Carroll the device led to 13 arrests with fines of 10 dollars plus costs. A Lanark test followed and additional arrests were reported as signs prompted drivers to slow down. In unrelated actions Kenneth Hoggart and Llewellyn Cook were jailed in Lanark after trespass in a cook house, with stolen items traced to a Savanna hotel arrest by Sheriff Miller.
